How to market t-shirts? A question I have been asking myself a lot lately. I’m not a salesman and although it would help my business to be one I am quite happy I am not. So I don’t want to be lugging t-shirts around to shops with a false smile and a bow tie. Don’t get me wrong I believe in my product but would be happier selling someone else’s ice to eskimos or bullshit to Aussies!

Ecommerce? The Answer To Selling T-shirts

Now online sounds like my baby. Build an ecommerce website https://www.shopify.co.nz/, list the products and sit back with a G & T and count the money. But wait, not so fast. SEO has crept into my life. You what?? Search engine optimization. Now if you want to find me on page 546 of google I don’t need no satisfaction with SEO but only .27% of people go to the second page! So either I pay gazillions for google ads where if someone pays gazillions + 1 he outranks me or I pay loads for a company to optimize my site or I write you a blog post on how to market t-shirts (yeah right). They tell me it helps and I find it fun so all sorted

The Lowdown About Selling At Markets

No I’m definitely not an expert but I do have some form. I was selling candles at the old Cooks Street Market in Auckland when I was 20 . So you think I am going to remember how after 52 years? Not a chance.

I thought a stint at the local markets would raise my profile locally but how to get people to even have a look? Most went straight past. So on came the silly hat, out came the sofa, homemade ice cream and home baked bread was added and I even sang them songs (badly!) and it worked. I didn’t sell many more t-shirts but I sure got engagement and that helped to pass the time. A hemp/organic t-shirt free with every $60 ice cream!
